Street Fighter [1994]

The first film ever based on the video game was released in 1994. It was one of two films released in 1994 that specifically adapted Street Fighter II, alongside Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. The movie features Jean-Claude Van Damme alongside Raúl Julia, with supporting roles by Byron Mann, Damian Chapa, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen, and Wes Studi. It collected $99.4 million at the worldwide box office in its lifetime.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)

How much does the 2026 reboot need to become the franchise’s top grosser worldwide?

According to the numbers on Box Office Mojo, the original video game adaptation is still the all-time highest-grossing film in the franchise. Therefore, the upcoming Jason Momoa starrer will have to beat that to achieve the #1 crown. Street Fighter needs $100 million only to beat the 1994 classic as the biggest film in this franchise.

According to early estimates, the upcoming reboot is on track to earn between $30 million and $40 million in its opening weekend alone at the North American box office. Therefore, it will see a solid boost in its debut weekend, pushing it towards the $100 million milestone worldwide and making it the all-time highest-grossing film in the franchise.

What is the film about?

The film follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, whom Chun-Li recruits to compete in the next World Warrior Tournament, unaware that the event will force them to confront each other and their own inner demons. Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, and Vidyut Jamwal starrer Street Fighter will be released on October 16.
