Editorial Policy

These are the standards our reporting is held to. They are published so readers can hold us to them.

Sourcing and verification

Claims of fact are verified before publication. Documents are read in full, not summarised from someone else’s reading of them. Where a claim rests on a single source, the story says so plainly.

Anonymity

We grant anonymity only where a source faces a real risk and the information cannot be obtained another way. When we do, we explain to readers why the source is unnamed and what their vantage point is.

Reporting and opinion

Opinion is labelled, bylined and kept in its own section. Reporters do not write opinion on the beats they cover.

Conflicts of interest

Staff declare financial interests relevant to their beat. Where a story touches a commercial partner, that relationship is disclosed in the article itself.

State your position here. If automated tools assist with research, transcription, translation or drafting, say which and say who is accountable for the published result.
