Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective are collaborating on the next big-screen film. The 2 production houses are coming together for a big-screen feature on RK Kao, the man who built R&AW and laid the foundation for India’s external intelligence agency. The film will focus on Kao’s journey and the institution he helped shape while working largely in the shadows.
The announcement comes as R&AW marks 58 years on September 21. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 11, 2028, during the Independence Day week. The release will also coincide with R&AW’s 60-year milestone, making the project a tribute to its founder and the agency he helped establish.

The film is based on Nitin Gokhale’s book Gentleman Spymaster, and it will be a large-scale espionage action drama. The film is currently untitled, with its cast and crew details kept under wraps. So far, the production houses have only announced the project, while details about the cast and director are expected to be revealed soon.

The film will chronicle events between 1955 and 1971, tracing the journey that eventually led to the formation of R&AW. It will also cover the agency’s first mission during the 1971 war.
Through this period, the film will focus on the events that shaped the organization and Kao’s role. The story will bring RN Kao’s journey and challenges to life on the big screen for a wider audience.
